XMAS, 2012, and Vlogging.

Hello all. Long time no talk.

Things have been mighty busy around The Whiskey Gentry camp lately. After our weekend run in Florida with Have Gun Will Travel, we (kind of) settled down enjoy the holidays. We hosted our Third Annual Y’all Tide Celebration, and it was a total blast.

Best night of the year!

On New Years Eve, we were fortunate enough to be invited to play the Peach Drop here in Atlanta in front of 100,00 people and open for Kansas. It was definitely an incredible way to ring in 2012.

Look at all those people!

We’ve started this year on a real high note (PUN!) by teaming up with Playpro Media and Sony Music to continue spreading the word about our music and to further expand our growth as a band. During this time, we’re going to be video blogging (vlogging!) to give our fans a peek into our lives and experiences as part of The Gentry. We’ll be doing a series that will be updated weekly, so make sure you check back in! Watch the first one below!

Also, please hop over to the Playpro site and “Like” us! It takes two seconds and they don’t ask for your email or to make an account. Just a lil’ button click to show you care. :)

The Third Annual Merry Y’all-Tide Celebration!

It's gonna be a good one!

I seriously look forward to our Christmas show all year. We have such a fun time thinking of creative holiday songs to cover, fun decorations, and awesome bands to play with us! This year we are especially excited because we’ll be playing The Variety Playhouse for the first time ever. Many of us grew up in/around Atlanta, so playing Variety can now be checked off our bucket lists!

Two incredibly talented bands will also be joining us this year. Packway Handle Band has played many shows with The Whiskey Gentry over the years – in fact, they played our 2nd annual Christmas show last year. They put on such entertaining, energetic performances, and we’re looking forward to seeing them again!

We’ve never played with Shovels & Rope before, but I’ve been a fan of Cary Ann Hearst since I started playing music around the Southeast. She’s got an incredible voice and songwriting skills, as does her husband, Michael Trent, with whom she shares the band. It’s so awesome to see another married couple making music together, and their chemistry together is undeniable. Also, their songs are super rad, and their live shows are so fun. I like them. I like them a lot.

I hope you all will join us this holiday season! You can purchase tickets here:  http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/0E004744073B9E8Eartistid=1650512&majorcatid=10001&minorcatid=1

See y’all December 2nd!

We have fun.

It's what we do.

“Nevermind” was released 20 years ago today.

We’re on our way to play a wedding in Athens and listening to the record on this, the 20th anniversary of its release. It takes me back to a time when my brother was the coolest m. f’er on the planet cruising around Marietta, Georgia in his Chevy Celebrity blasting this tape. And I was the six-year-old in the front seat trying to figure out how that baby knew how to swim.

Funny the things that make a mark on your little kid brain…

Mr. and Mrs.

Jason and I celebrated our first anniversary on Sunday.

Weddin'.

I feel like many people who are fans of The Whiskey Gentry don’t necessarily realize that Jason and I are married. It was the music, in fact, that brought us together. We were both playing in separate bands at the time we met, and then joined forces with TWG and grew closer and closer by the day. We also write the majority of the songs as a duo.

Sure, marriage isn’t the easiest thing on the planet, but I can’t think of anyone else I’d rather share my life and this band with. I think he feels the same. :)

Like Johnny and June.

The Lowe Brothers

Our beloved banjo player, Chesley, and his wife, Vivian, welcomed their twin baby boys into the world on Tuesday.

Chesley Jr. and Brander Lowe

They are precious and perfect. Jason and I went to the hospital last night to meet them.

Lauren with Brander

Jason with Chesley Jr.

Chesley informed us while we were there that the boys were actually born on Bill Monroe’s birthday, so naturally, they are destined for greatness. Chesley and Vivian have been like family to Jason and I since we met them in 2009. Chesley came recommended to us through a mutual friend of ours, and he has been with The Whiskey Gentry since the very beginning. We’re so excited and proud of him and Vivian, and we can’t wait until the boys get old enough to sit in with us. FAMILY BAND!

Welcome to The Gentry, little guys!

Testing. Testing. Is this thing on?

Hello friends! Greetings from the cyberworld!

A few things worth mentioning:

1. This is my first attempt at blogging.

2. This isn’t just my blog. This is The Whiskey Gentry’s blog. Although I will be the only one writing it, I promise to not update with things like, “Went to Publix today. They were out of 2% Colby Jack.” (YAWN.)

3. I think TWG does some pretty interesting things, and I would like to share them with you all, my cyber pals.

So…. here goes!

Stay tuned, friends. This should be fun.
